“My favorite summer accessory would be something that’s untypical of summer. Something that’s black, punk and hard. Backpacks are cool because at some point you get sick of seeing beach bags and light things,” said Stuart Vevers last night at the Accessories Council’s 20th Annual ACE Awards Gala. The creative director of Coach was on hand inside the ballroom of Cipriani’s 42nd Street location to accept the honor of “Designer of the Year.”
Nominated by peers in the industry, the ACE Awards celebrates the individuals and companies pushing accessory design forward. Other recipients this year included Sarah Jessica Parker for “Brand Visionary,” Ray-Ban for “Brand of the Year,” Julianna Margulies and “The Good Wife” costume designer Daniel Lawson for “Style Influencer,” and Bergdorf Goodman for “Retailer of the Year.”
Props to Vevers for originality, but sometimes there’s nothing better than a summer staple. Take Margulies, for example, who said, “My favorite accessory this summer is my Panama straw hat.”
