Last month, under cone of silence, Amanda Seyfried wed longtime boyfriend Thomas Sadoski, with whom she was expecting a child. Then, she gave birth. Since then, she's kept a pretty low profile, until last night, when she and Sadoski reemerged at last for their first post-baby, post-marriage red carpet appearance. They clutched each other's hands as they made their way in front of the step-and-repeat for the World of Children gala honoring CNN correspondent Arwa Damon. Damon is also the co-founder and president of the nonprofit Inara, which offers medical assistance to children injured in global conflicts.
As a regular in the front row at fashion week and events like the CFDA awards, Seyfried has donned her share of statement looks in the past. But for her first appearance after getting married and starting a family, she went strikingly understated in a Stella McCartney little black dress with a subtle embroidered motif.
Who: Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski.
When: Wednesday, April 19.
Where: The World of Children Hero Awards at the Montage Beverly Hills hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
What: On Sadoski, a navy blue suit, and on Seyfried, a black embroidered Stella McCartney dress with Francesco Russo heels.
Why: It might not be the grandest sartorial statement, but its subtext speaks volumes. For a somber charity event, it makes sense that Seyfried would opt for something understated — and what better designer to select than Stella McCartney, who has made a point of sustainably sourcing and ethically manufacturing her garments? (Bel Powley, the Diary of a Teenage Girl star, made a similar selection for a screening of the issues doc Sonita, wearing a dog-printed Stella McCartney look that was equal parts quirky and political statement.) Plus, as Seyfried evidences here, it's hard to go wrong with a little black dress.
