Big news from the international modeling community: 20-year-old model and It girl Bella Hadid revealed that she has quit smoking after an undisclosed amount of years. Hadid announced the news on Instagram Tuesday night, simply writing the caption "I quit" and a no-smoking sign emoji to accompany a sultry black and white photo of her...smoking a cigarette. Here's hoping she'll kick the addictive habit once and for all.
The news will probably bring a nice sigh of relief for those who follow Hadid's jet-set lifestyle, as her smoking habits have gotten her in a surprising amount of trouble in the past. At this year's Met Gala, she and her fellow young starlets Dakota Johnson, Ruby Rose, and Paris Jackson documented themselves hanging in the Met bathrooms while smoking cigarettes in and around the stalls. It proved to be so controversial that New York City's health commissioner had to weigh in with a statement to address the criticism. “When young people see glamorous stars smoking and flouting the law, it undermines the progress that has been made in de-normalizing smoking and increasing awareness of smoking’s health risks,” she explained.
Oddly enough, it's become quite the trend for young female celebs to post smoking photos on social media, as evidenced by everyone from Kylie Jenner to Dakota Johnson to Sofia Richie. (Jenner has noticeably done a lot of those photos lately.) And most recently, Kendall Jenner posted a fully nude photo of herself holding a cigarette, paired with a caption similar to Hadid's, reading, "I don't smoke" — seemingly to get ahead of the criticisms that would undoubtedly follow the post.
