On Saturday night, Beyoncé took the stage at Coachella and proceeded to give the performance of the century (millennium?). She brought out Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams for a Destiny's Child reunion, featuring a medley of "Lose My Breath," "Say My Name," and "Soldier"; she invited sister Solange to the stage for a dance-off during her rendition of "Get Me Bodied"; she shared the stage with husband Jay Z to perform "Deja Vu"; and, of course, she performed a wide range of her own greatest hits, some of which were mashed up with artful covers of other classics. Perhaps most impressive of all, however, is the fact that, at some point during the high-energy two-hour set, Bey left the stage for a brief costume change and seemed to come back with an all-new manicure.
The alleged over-the-top switcheroo was first pointed out by a handful of Twitter users shortly after Beychella came to a close. Several fans posted what they thought were before and after photos of the polish change to Twitter, expressing their shock and awe at Beyoncé's commitment to each head-to-toe look and her seemingly superhuman ability to change her polish in mere minutes, rather than wearing the same color until it all chips off like the rest of us mere mortals. "Beyoncé changing her nail polish during her Coachella set is the level of extra we all need to achieve," one person (accurately) tweeted.
However, as believable as it is that Queen Bey could set a new world record for the fastest manicure ever, Buzzfeed debunked the story on Monday morning. As their reporters discovered, if you rewatch Beyoncé's entire Coachella set, you'll notice that her nails were actually painted black the entire time, while photos of her wearing silver nail polish in her Coachella outfits were actually from her dress rehearsal. Obviously, this doesn't change the fact that Bey shook the entire world with her history-making headlining gig at the music festival — she just did so without changing her nail polish mid-set.
