The CFDA made waves in 2014 when it announced it would add a Fashion Instagrammer of the Year category to its annual Fashion Awards. Now the council is celebrating the platform once again in the form of a new book, Designers on Instagram (Abrams). The tome compiles images from the accounts of designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, and more, covering everything from their studios in action to their private lives. “Designers and photographers understand, perhaps more than anyone, the power of visual imagery,” Instagram’s co-founder and CEO, Kevin Systrom, writes in his forward. “The imaginative individuals who contributed to this book represent best-in-class examples of storytelling on Instagram.” Divided into five sections (#Inspiration, #BehindTheSeams, #Selfies, #Fashion, and #TBT), the book highlights the inclusive nature of Instagram that invites commentary and participation. As Steven Kolb writes in his introduction, “With a snap, caption, filter, and post, you too can contribute to the world of #fashion.”
Designers on Instagram: #fashion by The Council of Fashion Designers of America, $19.95, available April 14th on abramsbooks.com.
