After ten years of silence—he even turned down the opportunity to headline the London Olympic opening ceremonies—David Bowie celebrated his 66th birthday by emerging from his presumed retirement to announce the release of a new single “Where Are We Now?” A release stated that Bowie only writes and performs “…when he has something to say as opposed to sell. Today, he definitely has something to say.” Hold that thought. The new track, produced by Tony Visconti (who also worked with Bowie on “Young Americans” and “Space Oddity”), is just one of many more to come from the album “The Next Day,” out on March 12th.

The music video for “Where Are We Now?” features footage from Bowie’s time in Berlin.
