The Fifty Shades Freed Trailer Involves Guns, Car Chases, a Wedding and Whips

This one makes it look more like some sort of sexy spy thriller.

Fifty Shades: It’s the greatest love story ever told. Well at least the greatest that involves some BDSM and has captured the imaginations of fully grown women. Now, for Fifty Shades Freed, the saga reaches its romantic climax with a wedding…and guns. Throw in a few car chases, and the teaser trailer for the third film in the series almost makes you forget that at the heart of the franchise is whips, chains and bondage. This one makes it look more like some sort of sexy spy thriller.

Last we checked in with Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), the couple had finally decided to settle down and get engaged. Thus, Freed starts with their wedding, honeymoon, and Anastasia’s realization that she’s now a billionaire’s wife with access to a private jet and all the trapping of Christian’s privileged life. It’s all basically a standard fairy tail until the guns and car chases breakout.

Of course, don’t worry. There’s still some whips and toys and suggestive grabbing to behold in the trailer. This is Fifty Shades after all.

Fifty Shades Freed is set to debut on Valentine’s Day 2018, exactly a year after Fifty Shades Darker. The fast turnaround was possible because director James Foley filmed both installments simultaneously. Freed is also set to be the last film in the big screen trilogy (though the novels were a series of four books, the fourth was a retelling of events from Christian’s perspective). So, there’s still a lot of ground to cover before Anastasia and Grey edge towards the release of the big finish.

Supporting players Kim Basinger, Rita Ora and Marcia Gay Harden are all set to return. TV hunk Tyler Hoechlin is also set to make his Fifty Shades debut after having his scenes cut from the previous film.

Assuredly, the kinky books’ fans will show up to send the trilogy off. The last film made $378 million at the box office.
