The Midas Touch in Milan

Fondazione Prada celebrates the opening of its new art center.

This weekend, the new Fondazione Prada art center in Milan, designed by longtime Prada collaborator Rem Koolhaas and OMA, will open its doors to the public. These are no ordinary doors though—one façade of the converted factory building is covered in 24-karat gold leaf. To celebrate the much-anticipated opening, Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli hosted an inaugural dinner Sunday. Italy’s Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and the Mayor of Milan joined Koolhaas and cultural power-players like Venice Biennale director Okwui Enwezor, artists Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons, curator Hans-Ulrich Obrist and director Steve McQueen. Between the Venice Biennale and Milan Expo 2015, it’s hard to compete with all the events happening in Italy right now, but the Fondazione Prada certainly shines.
