The term GIF might conjure visions of the 90s Dancing Baby, but rarely does Art with a capital A come to mind. Though on Paddle8.com, Michael Stipe, the Rodarte sisters, James Frey, and others are out to elevate the digital medium by creating exclusive GIFs to be shown on the site and alongside a select group of user-submitted GIFs at their exhibition “Moving the Still” at Art Basel Miami. Here, a few of our favorites, including an exclusive look at Nick Knight’s creation, a tribute to his friend Lee McQueen. “My desire was to speak in some way about the dark and the light contained within Lee and within us all,” he says.
