For a full week of last October, three words were unavoidable: “rise and shine,” delivered in precisely the way Kylie Jenner sang them to her infant daughter in a Kylie Cosmetics office tour video. Remixes were made, and even Ariana Grande shared a cover. And Jenner, ever the entrepreneur, turned the viral moment into a marketing tool complete with official merch.
Now, almost exactly a year later, Jenner is back with a new ditty phenomenon. It all started with a clip from the upcoming season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which finds Jenner on a completely different level from her dining companions. After ordering a ginger ale and her drink of choice—Don Julio 1942 tequila on the rocks—she launches into song: “‘Cause I’m gonna get wasted / I just finished a whole cup of ’42 / And I’m about to go for a second one.” When no one reacts, she calls across the table to one of her sisters: “Kourtney, what the fuck are you on?”
Jenner and Kardashian have memorably shared Don Julio in the past. (They once consumed nearly 22 shots from a custom glittery pink bottle over the course of a 20-minute getting ready video.) This time, though, Kardashian declined to partake in the fun. “I don’t know what’s going on, so I’m just appreciating my bread,” she responds.
The exchange, which is now known as “Wasted,” then made its way to TikTok, where it quickly took on a life of its own. Bella Hadid even took time out of her birthday weekend to lip-sync an Instagram version. Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas followed suit, swapping out tequila and bread for a Nalgene bottle and frozen yogurt.
This time, Jenner herself seems to have preemptively ended the meme cycle. The 23-year-old got meta and posted her own lip-sync version on TikTok, which cuts her sister off just as she begins to respond.
