Brave New World

A new film explores the discourse between art and technology.

David Hockney

What does the advent of the iPad have to do with painting? Or Instagram with the future of music? This is the premise of the latest short documentary from Pablo Ganguli and filmmaker Tomas Auksas of Liberatum. Polling creatives from around the globe, from MIA to David Hockney, the film brings the high-falutin discourse down to earth. Whether it’s an anecdote from artist Kehinde Wiley on technology and race “Technology for black and brown people all over the globe has created a state of grace we’ve never seen before,” or filmmaker Brett Ratner sharing his love of YouTube, “Young artists from every part of the planet…can actually put something up on YouTube and have the world experience it”—the film touches upon a very human element of the digital revolution.
