Dancing in the Rain

The Museum of Modern Art celebrates in a summer downpour.

The Museum of Modern Art’s annual Garden Party struggled last night, as it took place during a downpour and there was a loud protest outside. Inside, however, was a different story. The glowing dinner party in the museum’s atrium brought together a powerful posse of artists including Tina Barney, Teresita Fernandez, and Jeff Koons, all of whom came to celebrate the evening’s honorees: David Rockefeller, Richard Serra, and Kara Walker. At witching hour (read: 9 p.m.), the blue-chip artists departed to make room for a more rowdy set of revelers who came flocking to the tented sculpture garden for a wild and wet concert by Chromeo and The Weeknd. Speckled throughout the crowd, up-and-comers like Jeanette Hayes and Jiajia Fei didn’t let the weather dampen their dance moves.
