As Hollywood’s elite gathered on Sunday night to celebrate the 90th Annual Academy Awards, many starlets retreated to what has become a signature look of the year’s most prestigious red carpet, opting for elegant side swept polished curls and effortlessly minimal makeup. However, leave it Best Actress nominees Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan to elevate the evening’s theme of refined glamour with identical freshly chopped, chin-grazing bobs.

Styling her new locks side parted with a slight beach wave, Robbie, who is nominated for Best Actress for her role in I,Tonya, skimmed only a short layer from her previous lob that further embellished her all white Chanel gown, which she paired with a subtle silver shimmery eye and a natural lip. Explaining the inspiration behind her look, Robbie’s hairstylist, Bryce Scarlett, explained on behalf of Moroccanoil that, “Tonight’s look was inspired by Margot’s Chanel couture gown. Her dress was extremely feminine and elegant, and we wanted to take the length of her hair up to make sure that it felt very classic and modern to go with her gorgeous dress.”

Ronan on the other hand, who is nominated for her role in Lady Bird, took on an even more understated approach to her look, mirroring the blunt, middle parted bob she wore as her character in the film. Pairing her pink Calvin Klein by Appointment gown with a sweep of coral eyeshadow on the eyelids and a pale pink lip, Ronan’s hairstylist Adir Abergel shared with Us Weekly that, “Saoirse and I had been talking for a while about doing a major cut and after finally seeing the dress, which was so modern and linear, we knew this was the moment to do it.”

Abergel continued on to celebrate the star’s major chop who shed a few inches via Instagram saying, “Ending this season with a chop ✂️✂️✂️ on one another of my favorite humans #saoirseronan GOOD LUCK TONIGHT BABY GIRL!”, further proving that modern bob is here to stay.
