Rizzoli’s Return

New York-based bibliophiles have mourned the loss of Rizzoli’s brick and mortar outpost since the publisher shuttered the doors of their vaulted 57th street flagship in 2014. Next week, the beloved bookshop is reborn at a decidedly more downtown address—architect Bruce Price’s St. James Building on 26th Street and Broadway. The 19th-century Beaux-Arts style space offers a historic setting for the Italian publisher’s colorful volumes. Rizzoli invited Fornasetti Milano to design custom wall murals for the shop’s lofty alcoves. Floating above the shelves, these gilded landscapes—featuring clouds, castles, and cherubs—are the perfect foil to the structured stacks.
