Titty Twister

Paris has a new nocturnal playground with a suggestive moniker and equally louche décor. Titty Twister, an underground bar in the city’s 8th arrondissement, is the brainchild of nightlife impresario Cyril Peret Paglinghi, whose past projects include Man Ray and the cult “Don’t Tell My Booker” party at Les Bains Douches.

A mash-up of Quentin Tarantino’s outré aesthetic—the name is a reference to the vampire-run establishment in the film From Dusk ‘Til Dawn—and New York’s Lower East Side, the boite features a smoking room, a pool-playing area, a dance floor and an electro-DJ area, all lit by a collection of neon signs and showcasing art objets like Philippe Pasqua’s handcuffs.

“I was tired of working in such trendy places, too clean, too designed,” says Peret Paglinghi, whose décor inspiration came from an Andrew Martin chesterfield emblazoned with an American flag that he spied during a recent stay at the Dream Downtown in New York. “I wanted to create something damaged but studied.”

The place has already been a hit with A-listers like Jude Law, Naomi Campbell, Mick Jagger and Lenny Kravitz and will host a party for Citizen K magazine. But Peret Paglinghi is careful to keep the vibe low-key rock ‘n’ roll. “It has been a long time in Paris since we’ve seen such a melting pot, where you can see tattooed, gay, trendy, rich and hipster people in one same place,” he says. “This is what makes Titty Twister’s success.”
