All That Glitters

An appropriately dazzling performance for the opening of Van Cleef & Arpels’s new flagship.

It was the dazzling designs in the window of Van Cleef & Arpels’s Fifth Avenue boutique that inspired George Balanchine to choreograph his great 1967 work Jewels for the New York City Ballet. To inaugurate the redesign of its New York flagship—which features a new bridal salon and displays of never before show-cased archival gems—Van Cleef & Arpels has tapped Benjamin Millepied, the former NYCB dancer and incoming director of the Paris Opera Ballet, to create a piece for the opening party.
