Victoria’s Secret Angel Josephine Skriver’s Heart Will Go On — To Balmain

The Victoria’s Secret Angel showed up to Balmain in a now-iconic Vetements sweatshirt.

For Balmain’s Spring 2017 show, Olivier Rousteing presented no fewer than 80 looks. His shows are always massive, decadent affairs, and they permit him to cast a huge lineup of models of the moment. This season, Natasha Poly opened the show, followed by Gigi Hadid, Alessandra Ambrosio, Sara Sampaio, Maria Borges, Josephine Skriver — a roster of Rousteing’s favorites, and veterans of the runway at fashion week and Victoria’s Secret alike. And while the Balmain show was certainly attention-getting — with body-con silhouettes and bold colors, when is it not? — it was model Josephine Skriver’s off-duty look arriving to the show that really caught our eye.

Who: Josephine Skriver.

When: Thursday, September 29.

Where: Arriving to the Balmain Spring 2017 show in Paris, France.

What: An oversized sweatshirt by Vetements from the Spring 2016 collection with an image of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in Titanic screen-printed on the front, and thigh-high black boots.

Why: The one thing about these statement Vetements looks is they prove a tough act to follow. Rita Ora and Whoopi Goldberg both wore the “May the Bridges I Burn Light the Way” hoodie — with decidedly different subtext — months apart from each other. Céline Dion wore this Titanic-themed hoodie back during Paris Couture Week in July. But if anyone could come close to wearing this look as well as Dion herself, it appears to be Josephine Skriver. (We’re still waiting for Leo and Kate to try it on for size.) Though en route to the Balmain show, Rousteing’s first since the brand was acquired by Mayhoola earlier this year, Skriver still champions a different, equally but differently beloved Paris-based brand. She exemplifies model-off-duty style, wearing a hoodie as a dress in combination with sleek thigh-high boots — and, of course, paparazzi-proof dark black shades.
