What: The Walkabout Foundation hosted its inaugural gala to raise funds for research into finding a cure for paralysis and to provide 2,500 wheelchairs for people in need in countries such as Haiti, Colombia, Sudan, Kenya, India and Pakistan.

Why: Simon de Pury led an auction featuring tempting lots like lunch with artist Damian Hirst. Over all, the evening raised more than £1 million.
