Everything We Know About the Ocean’s Eleven Prequel

After much anticipation, an Ocean’s Eleven prequel is officially underway. This week, Margot Robbie was spotted on set in Paris channeling Audrey Hepburn elegance for the upcoming period heist film—which takes place in the 1960s and introduces a whole new cast.

As a refresher, the Ocean’s trilogy started in 2001 with Ocean’s Eleven, a reboot of the 1960 film starring Frank Sinatra. It followed Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) as they schemed to pull off a casino heist in Las Vegas. Over the years, the franchise continued with 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve and 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen, followed by a spinoff starring Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, and Anne Hathaway in 2018. Though Clooney teased a reboot with the original cast last fall, the untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel is next in the franchise.

What’s the plot of the Ocean’s Eleven prequel?

Set in 1962, the original story—written and directed by Bradley Cooper—will follow Danny Ocean’s parents as they plan an elaborate heist at the Monaco Grand Prix. At 2026 Comic-Con, Margot Robbie—whose production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, is producing the film—shared more details. “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: his parents,” she said. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist.” After kicking off in Paris this summer, production is set to move to Nice and Monaco in the coming months.

What is Margot Robbie’s role in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel?

Along with being a producer, Robbie is presumed to star as Danny’s mom, one of the two masterminds behind the Monaco Grand Prix heist. She will reportedly star opposite Cooper, who is rumored to play Danny’s dad.

While not much has been revealed about her character, her on-set looks have told a story of tailored 1960s glamour—featuring black-and-white palettes and streamlined silhouettes. On August 19, she wore a white shift with black pointy-toe pumps, a Chanel flap bag, and a wide-brimmed hat that evoked Hepburn-esque polish. A day prior, she was spotted filming in a lace ivory dress with her hair in a beehive bun. In other words, she has the wardrobe of a vintage femme fatale.

Will George Clooney return for the Ocean’s Eleven prequel?

As it takes place before his time, Clooney will not appear in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel. However, the 65-year-old actor is planning a separate sequel that will bring back the original cast—including Pitt, Julia Roberts and Matt Damon.

Who else is part of the Ocean’s Eleven prequel cast?

Alongside Cooper and Robbie, Monica Barbaro has been photographed on set wearing a teal pencil-skirt suit that exuded ’60s allure. The cast will also include Vicky Krieps, George MacKay, Lauren Ridloff, Jack Holden, Omar Sy, Josh Gad, and Wagner Moura. Their roles have not been confirmed, but Moura is understood to be playing the film’s villain.

When will the Ocean’s Eleven prequel be released?
