We’re in the spring 2022 season’s final stretch, and so far, Paris Fashion Week has made it official: Against all odds, it turns out IRL runway shows really can go smoothly amid a pandemic. Kenneth Ize injected a sense of optimism from the start on Monday, which saw the Nigerian designer and 2019 LVMH Prize finalist present a vibrant, almost exuberant collection full of cherry red, dandelion yellow, and electric blue. A day after Donatella Versace and Kim Jones “Fendace” extravaganza in Milan, the presentation served as a reminder that you don’t necessarily need supermodels to steal the show. Of course, a bit of star power remains welcome on the catwalk, and houses like Saint Laurent, Chanel, and Givenchy will no doubt deliver just that in the hours and days to come. Keep track of the best looks to hit the runway as we await the grand finale: Raf Simons, Virgil Abloh, and 42 other designers’ love-themed tribute to the late Alber Elbaz, who’d no doubt be thrilled with this season’s embrace of positivity.
