Can Riverdale‘s Cast Live Up to Gossip Girl‘s Fashion Legacy?
There’s nothing that fashion loves more than a gorgeous young starlet on a hit television series. The most shining example: Gossip Girl‘s Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, who in the course of their tenure on the show served as the ambassadors of a range of products, from Gucci perfumes to Vera Wang fragrance and Missoni ready-to-wear, as well as sat front row at countless fashion shows and made friends with the likes of Michael Kors and Karl Lagerfeld. Now that the show has been off the air for five years, fashion is overdue for its latest teen drama It-girls. Enter Riverdale, the dark adaptation on the classic “Archie” comic books that has become a quick mass hit among the teen set. Like Gossip Girl, the show is led by a blonde and a brunette, Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes, who may very well ascend the sartorial ladder very soon, alongside their resident redhead, Madeleine Petsch. While the trio may not yet be clad in head-to-toe Chanel, or receiving invites to attend the Met Gala in the arms of buzzy designers, if this week’s hotly anticipated season two premiere—and subsequent impressive ratings—are any indication, expect to see them on many red carpets in the coming months.
