In W’s September 2014 issue, stylist Jessica de Ruiter revealed the secret to her mix-and-match wardrobe: irresistible, minimalist staples from Israeli designer Nili Lotan. Here, the designer, who recently opened up a New York City concept shop, talks about her signature look, including her favorite pieces, finishing touches, and style pet peeves.

Define your style in three words: Minimal, effortless, timeless.

Daily uniform: Black jeans, Nili Lotan sweater.

Preferred footwear: Common Project sneakers or Alexander Wang black ankle-strap pump.

Finishing touches: A vintage crocodile black belt with silver buckle.

Nighttime look: Slim trouser or jeans (depends on the occasion), a silk tee or blouse, a jacket or coat, and a black high heel pump.

Best recent discovery: A casual restaurant named “Ahachim” (the brothers) on Eben Gvirol in Tel Aviv.

Favorite stores: Barneys New York, ABC Home and Carpet, Breads Bakery NYC, Moon River Chattel in Brooklyn.

Style pet peeve: Over designing, trying too hard.
