Jennifer Lawrence doesn't say a single word in the trailer for Red Sparrow, but she certainly leaves an impression. In the spy film (one of many upcoming female spy movies), Lawrence plays a Russian ballerina who is recruited by a government agency that train attractive young people to use their minds and bodies to seduce the enemy. As we can assume from the first scene in the trailer, Lawrence's character seems apprehensive about her line of work. She sits nervously on a bed, takes a sip of what we assume is a stiff drink, and seems nearly petrified when a man enters and orders her to take off her dress.
Based on Jason Matthews's novel of the same name, the story finds Lawrence's character Dominika Egorova meeting a CIA agent played by Joel Edgerton and deciding whether or not to become a double agent and leave the Russian Sparrow program. In case you're wondering, yes, it's possible this could be the start of a movie franchise. Matthews is slated to write a sequel to his novel, which means a sequel to the movie could be a possibility down the road. Considering that the subject matter of international intrigue between Russia and America is so hot right now, we wouldn't be surprised.
The movie also finds Lawrence reunited with her longtime Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence. Charlotte Rampling is also featured as the headmistress of the Sparrow school, Mary Louis Parker as a Senator, and Joely Richardson as Lawrence's mother.
Red Sparrow only recently wrapped up filming in May, and won't be released until March 2nd of next year.
Lawrence, of course, is more busy promoting her film mother! at the moment ahead of its release this weekend. She'll also soon return to her to the X-Men franchise with another turn as Mystique, and has a flick about the downfall of controversial Silicon Valley executive Elizabeth Holmes in the works.
