Bella Hadid Makes Her Return to New York in Archival Prada

A Fashion Week miracle took place on Monday night, when Bella Hadid stepped out in a subversive slip dress straight from Prada’s spring 1998 collection. Hadid hasn’t been publicly spotted in New York during the city’s fashion week in nearly two years. It appears she wasn’t in town to walk a runway, but she still put on quite a show on the sidewalk.

From afar, her satin cream gown had all the makings of ’90s-era minimalism—with a body-hugging silhouette and subtle, light-pink princess stitching that accentuated the hourglass cut. But upon further inspection, it was not your typical slip dress. Beneath the satin fabric was a translucent layer that gave the garment a plasticky finish. The jagged hem of the neckline added a sense of danger and deconstruction.

Her shoes amped up the edge. Instead of leaning into monochrome with ivory pumps, Hadid opted for bright red pointy toe sling-backs. Though on the runway, the look had a longer silhouette and charcoal heels, her crimson take on the footwear felt satisfyingly apt for a late-night NYFW outing. Never one to venture out sans accessories, the star added an oversized leather jacket, a beige bag, drop diamond earrings, and rounded sunglasses with clear green rims.

Hadid has been largely out of New York City this summer—spending much of her time embracing Western style in Colorado and sister dressing with Gigi on a family trip to the Cayman Islands. Still, a sighting of the supermodel at New York Fashion Week is practically tradition. With the schedule officially coming to a close on Tuesday, Hadid’s appearance this year came at the very last minute. But in archival Prada, it was certainly worth the wait.
