Kristen Stewart Pairs a Luxe Leather Dress With Men’s Sneakers

Kristen Stewart has made many contributions to pop culture, but perhaps most impressive is her ability to reframe pantless outfits and edgy leather accents as an everyday staple. Her latest outing leveled up this singular style legacy with the addition of sporty—if unexpected—footwear: Adidas Sambas.

On August 10, the star was spotted in New York City wearing two distinctly alt ensembles in a matter of hours. The first was a leg-baring look with a graphic T-shirt, a mini skirt, and an oversized blazer that made it look as though she had no bottoms on at all. Spotted leaving her loft in NoHo, the actor donned rounded sunglasses and her textured pixie cut in tousled waves. To round it out? She wore a pair of men’s black Adidas Sambas with lime-green accents and dark socks hiked up to her calves.

It was a decidedly Stewartian look, but it wasn’t the only statement-making ensemble of the day. On her way to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the star served up an entirely different aesthetic—with the same shoes. Styled by Karla Welch, Stewart sported a glossy leather Alex Perry dress that hugged her curves and extended down to her hiked-up socks. Featuring a plunging neckline and ultra-thin straps, the high-shine garment embodied subversive sexiness. She kept her insouciant accessories the same, including her chain-link choker and warm-tinted shades. While most stars might choose to dress up the look with kitten heels, Stewart stayed true to her rubber-soled sneakers.

The 36-year-old, who made her directorial debut last year with The Chronology of Water, is currently promoting her upcoming stoner comedy The Wrong Girls, which was written and directed by her wife Dylan Meyer. Though she has a long-documented affinity for off-kilter outfit accents, her neon-embellished shoes have doubled as a cheeky, self-referential item throughout this press tour. Promotional stills from the film show a world tinged with green, while the movie’s title card is the exact same shade of neon chartreuse. At the Los Angeles premiere last week, Stewart paired androgynous capris with a wrinkled white blouse, allowing her bright Adidas to perfectly coordinate with the film’s typeface.
