As summer begins its wind down, each August we the public are treated to a glittering reminder that the season is not over yet. It comes the first week of the month, when Rihanna, patron saint of daring fashion, treats the world to a glimpse of her truest self: Riri at Carnival. Held each August in the singer’s home island nation of Barbados, the Crop Over Festival is the country’s answer to Carnival. Historically held to mark the end of a successful sugar cane season, today the weeks-long celebration culminates with Kadooment Day, held the first Monday in August, with a blow-out extravaganza, festive costumes heavily encouraged. And of course, Rihanna is all too happy to oblige. Over the years, the singer has donned some truly extravagant ensembles to the festivities, including jeweled bras, feather headdresses, and plenty of body glitter. This year, she entered her version of her Blue Period, donning a teal wig, paired with a glittering bikini set, which she proudly showed off on Instagram. Here, a look back at her past festival ensembles from every angle, as posted by the bad gal herself.
