Summer is the time for relaxed braids, experimental hair colors, and big-change chops, and Jessica Chastain just went for it, Summer 2018–style.

The famous redhead just debuted a brand new look on her Instagram, courtesy of her longtime hairstylist Renato Campora and makeup artist Tyron Machhausen. Gone are the long and subtle wavy locks that typically pass her shoulders to hang down her back. In their place is a trendy, middle-parted shag.

"Looking stunning #jessicachastain with layered #bobhaircut by me," Campora wrote on Instagram. Chastain clearly likes the chop, since she reposted Campora's photo with the simple caption "summer cut." The look is a tousled, layered lob that's a little bit grunge and a little bit beachy. She wouldn't be out of place in Paris—where the photo was shot—or on the streets of sunny Hollywood.

Campora also shared a photo of the process. In the picture, Chastain is already in full glam, wearing a Babaton for Artizia trench, and he's trimming her ends. Judging by the angle of the scissors in the photo, Campora razored the bottom pieces for maximum layering potential.

We all know Chastain for her red hair, which she's careful to maintain, whether it's slicked back or pouffed out. Still, when she was younger, she didn't love her stand-out locks. "You know, I think any time a child is different from the pack it’s something you have to get used to," she explained to W last March. "It took me a while to understand that what is unique about us is actually what we should cherish, and what we will cherish when we’re older." Thankfully, she's deep into the "cherish" stage—and moving onward into a realm of beauty experiments and on-trend chops.
