Give up on your dreams of a Selena Gomez and The Weeknd collaboration. According to People, the duo have reportedly split after about 10 months of dating.

“She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” a source told the magazine of Selena and her now ex, Abel Tesfaye. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them.” The source said that Selena’s absence from The Weeknd’s concerts “played a part in them getting distant,” despite the fact that she “always made an effort” to attend his shows when she could. “It’s over for now, but they’re still in touch,” the insider said. Neither Selena nor The Weeknd have publicly commented or confirmed the split.

The source noted that the difficult breakup has been looming for quite some time. “It’s been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months,” they said. The source added that the split did not come about as a result of Selena’s starting up a [reportedly platonic relationship]https://www.wmagazine.com/story/selena-gomez-justin-bieber-friends-again with her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. (The pair have been spotted hanging out at each other’s houses and at coffee shops around Los Angeles, but one of Selena’s family members recently reportedly said that the Gomez clan absolutely do not approve of the reunion.)

Selena and The Weeknd were first reported to be dating in January, when they were spotted sharing some PDA while on a romantic dinner date in Santa Monica. Soon after, they traveled with each other to Italy, Abel’s hometown of Toronto, and Coachella, before making things red carpet official at the Met Gala in New York City in May. Later in the summer, the couple briefly moved into an NYC apartment together and adopted a puppy. It was recently reported that The Weeknd rearranged his performance schedule in order to be with Selena during her kidney transplant and recovery.

In the September 2017 issue of InStyle, Selena spoke about her relationship. “I don’t depend on one area of my life to make me happy. It’s really important for me to love and nourish my friends and family and to make sure that I never get influenced by a guy,” she said. “You want someone to add to your life, not to complete you, if that makes sense. I’m lucky because he’s more of a best friend than anything else.”

But rumors of a split started brewing this week, when eagle-eyed fans noticed that Abel had unfollowed all of Selena’s friends and family members on Instagram — although he still has yet to unfollow Selena herself.
