Kaia Gerber, Karl Lagerfeld’s New Model of the Moment, Led the Way at Chanel Spring 2018
Kaia Gerber may be having the best fashion month debut… ever. After making her she walked at Raf Simons’s latest collection for Calvin Klein during New York Fashion Week, she’s taken part in the most major shows of the season, including Alexander Wang, Valentino, Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, Moschino, and Fendi. And, if that last one wasn’t enough of an indicator, designer Karl Lagerfeld has taken a shine to the young supermodel, casting her again in his Chanel Spring 2018 show—in the opening spot, no less. For his latest collection, Lagerfeld presented a deconstructed take on Chanel’s trademark tweeds, pairing trousers and skirts with raw edges with vinyl hats and capelets set against a grand lagoon backdrop intended to evoke the Gorges du Verdon in the south of France, recreated at the Grand Palais. Gerber was followed by a cast of all of Lagerfeld’s go-to muses, like Soo Joo Park, Stella Maxwell, Louise Parker, and Eléonore Toulin, as well as other familiar faces like Mariacarla Boscono, Vittoria Ceretti, and Anna Ewers. Here, go inside Lagerfeld’s lush dreamscape with all the models of the moment, as photographed by Hunter Abrams.
