Photos of Good Dogs as Beetlejuice, Sean Spicer, and More at the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade
For the past 27 years, hundreds of dogs have descended on lower Manhattan each October for the annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade, obliging both the whims of their owners and delighting the thousands of Instagram-ready onlookers alike. As each owner unabashedly vied to make their pooch the star of the show—and sometimes that meant some silly hats and uncomfortable-looking goggles—we saw a panoply of costumes meant to appeal to all walks of life, from pizza slices and hot dogs to pop culture references ranging from IT‘s Pennywise to the star clownfish of Finding Nemo. And of course, at the parade on Saturday, it was also inevitable that things got political. Following the lead of one Meryl Streep, a pup showed up as Donald Trump, complete with a wig and a roll of paper towels around his neck reading “Hurricane Relief” (the parade also played had a station collecting donations for Puerto Rico0. He was joined by more members of the dog—er, White—House, both past and present, including Kellyanne Conway in her infamous inauguration ensemble, who was on “Dog News” to discuss topics like “Alternative Facts: Baths Are Good for You,” and Sean Spicer, who returned to his post behind a press podium in his usual suit and tie, apparently having given up on shaving.
